Getting Your Bearings Right

In all kinds of equipment, bearings are used, and perform a number of different functions. There are various kinds of bearings, such as ball bearings, needle bearings, thrust bearings and roller bearings. In general, in small machines running at high speeds, ball bearings are used, whereas roller bearings are typically used in machines operating under heavy loads.

Since bearings are designed to facilitate a machine ‘s movement, the effects of not testing and repairing them can often be devastating and sometimes costly. For instance, you will typically get some indication of this when a wheel bearing on a car starts to wear, as you may hear a moaning noise coming from the wheel and often the steering can start to feel a little loose. In addition to this, if the issue is not fixed immediately, when the wheel begins to misalign, you can also see irregular tyre wear. The grease that lubricates it heats up and drops out as the bearing disintegrates, leading to the seizing up of the device. The wheel could become loose, leading to potential damage to the wheel axle and the suspension sections of the vehicle, and the wheel may also be removed from the vehicle in an extreme situation, not something you want to do when driving!

It’s obviously important to know the one you need, including the size of the bearing needed, when purchasing replacement bearings. It can be too easy to get the wrong one with measurements differing by mere millimeters and fitting the incorrect bearing in your equipment could lead to your machine working badly or even completely breaking down. Together with extensive knowledge and experience in our industry, we have a wide range of bearings for all types of applications. We will also ensure that you have the right grease, spacers, shims and everything else you need for your bearings to be replaced successfully.
