New Volvo FM – A new way to define versatility

Volvo Trucks is proud to launch their next-generation Volvo FM range which now offers improvements to the driver environment and a range of innovations that deliver even higher levels of comfort, safety and productivity.
“Trucks form an integral part of our everyday life, that is why, with the launch of the new Volvo FM, we are introducing a versatile working tool that is also the ultimate workspace for drivers, one of the most important assets in the transport industry,” said Marcus Hörberg, vice president of Volvo Group Southern Africa.
Designed to be spacious and offer exceptional external visibility, the new Volvo FM creates the perfect mobile workplace on wheels for all segments and with a wide variety of options for different drivelines and chassis configurations, there is no task that it can’t tackle while still offering high-level productivity and fuel savings.
“For every societal beat and logistical need, the new Volvo FM is a truck that will keep our world in motion, around urban areas, over long distances, picking up containers in ports, navigating construction sites, maximising chemical payloads – the Volvo FM is up to any task. It’s probably our most versatile truck model,” said Hörberg.

Eric Parry, product manager at Volvo Trucks South Africa had this to say, “The new Volvo FM is the versatile workhorse of our range, agile and fit to serve its purpose of being spacious, safe and comfortable for drivers, we’ve also achieved very good visibility using a lowered door line, new rear-view mirrors and a passenger corner camera.”
To achieve this the newly designed cab has raised A-pillars that add up to one cubic meter of additional space. It is also fitted with newly developed smart technology aimed at creating the ideal mobile office for its drivers. The interior is also equipped with an all-new dashboard offering more storage space and a new 12” high-resolution instrument display with an easy-to-use interface. For infotainment, a 9” display is utilised to control navigation support, transport information, camera monitoring and entertainment functions.

The exterior of the Volvo FM has a new aerodynamic shape with strong lines running from the front to the back of the cab in a single sweeping line. It also adds a newly designed front grille and headlights to update its look.

On the safety side of things, it comes as no surprise that Volvo has designed the FM range to the highest safety standard with the latest in safety technology. It comes equipped with Downhill Cruise Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Sign Recognition, EBS, Collision Warning with Emergency Brake & ESC, Optional systems include Volvo Dynamic Steering, Lane Keeping Assist and Stability Assist.
