Volvo Trucks embarks on biggest model launch in its history

Volvo Trucks South Africa has taken a bold move by embarking on the largest product launch in the company’s history. Volvo Trucks introduced a new generation of truck models through its current four extra heavy commercial truck lines, the Volvo FH, FH16, FM and FMX.

The emphasis has been put on the driver environment, safety and efficiency with the new launch and it has come at a time when the industry faces a massive shortage of professional drivers. Volvo strives to help its customers attract the right quality.

An estimated rising demand for transportation is placing pressure on the worldwide supply of trained drivers. Volvo Trucks has concentrated heavily on designing the new trucks to make them safer, more effective and more desirable working tools for skilled drivers to help customers hire the best drivers.

All the latest models are manufactured locally at the company’s plant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Volvo Trucks has invested more than R2 million in upgrading tools and equipment at its plant.

Volvo Trucks has also invested in the installation of revolutionary IT equipment and technology in the midst of the travel constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing Volvo Trucks’ global experts to assist the South African team remotely. With several different cab configurations, the different truck models in the Volvo Trucks range are accessible and can be customized for a wide range of applications.

Therefore, in designing all the latest truck models, visibility, comfort, ergonomics, noise level, manoeuvrability and safety were key focal points. The exterior of the truck has also been updated to reflect the properties of the new trucks and create an appealing overall design.

The new Volvo FM and Volvo FMX have a brand new cab and their interior volume has been increased by one cubic meter. The visibility is now due to larger windows, a lowered door line and new mirrors. The driver’s area has a new interface for information and communication. Safety has been improved with functions with adaptive high beam headlights in the Volvo FH and Volvo FH16.
